Online Learning
CEA uses a quality, Christian-friendly, college preparatory online curriculum developed by certified teachers, specialized in their field of study. Our curriculum is customized and original, and is deeply rooted in the National Content Standards. It is fully recognized and accredited by NWAC, one of the six US Department of Education accrediting agencies. We offer ninety-plus courses that are self-directed, self-paced, flexible, and interactive. The curriculum is continuously updated for current and relevant materials in all subjects. This program has been successfully used by over 20,000 students worldwide.
How progress is monitored
All student work can be viewed from the student, parent, teacher and administrator portals. Each lesson is color coded for different stages of student progress. The visual cues provide instant feedback when a student has viewed, completed or submitted an assignment. When a student submits a completed assignment, it immediately appears in the teachers "Lessons to be graded" window. When reviewing and grading a student's completed assignment, the teacher has the option to mark each question "correct", "incorrect", or "redo". Marking a question for redo allows the student to further research an assignment and provide corrected work, without having to redo the entire assignment.
Online tutoring
Teachers or an Instructional Supervisor will be available for online grading and reviewing of all lessons within a 24-48 hour time period 6 days a week. Students can start by asking their teacher for help via email. Often a teacher may schedule a telephone conversation with students throughout the school week. If a student struggles with specific materials, a telephone and online conference meeting using our Mikago whiteboard/computer system will be scheduled with a Educational Specialist in a specific subject. In 2011 we hope to add web cams to add to our tutoring abilities.
Note: Our teachers will work one-on-one with their students building caring relationships. While our teachers are extremely supportive, they are NOT paid tutors, who go over each individual lesson, and each individual problem.
Full Time Students
Full Time students take at least 4 academic courses at one time. Students become Private School Students of CEA. Full time students may take up to 8 full credit courses each year.
Part-Time Students
A student may take an individual course, summer school course, honors courses or AP course not offered at your current school. Many private or public schools today are cutting teachers and courses offered. Online classes are a great option for students wanting credit for courses not offered at their current school. Most schools allow students to take courses from a virtual school. The credit is transferred to the school upon completion. It is the parent/students responsibility to verify that a school will accept CEA accredited transcripts.
Initial Assessment
CEA has partnered with Global to provide diagnostic education assessments to determine grade level, math and language arts ability, and a detailed report on a student’s learning needs. CEA has also developed their own Diagnostic testing for students in all grades, that will give parents an evaluation of their child’s logic and reasoning skills, reading/comprehension skills, language usage ability, composition skills and mathematic ability. Assessments and diagnostics may be required for entrance into online classes. This will be determined by the curriculum director.
Standardized Testing and "Exit" Requirements
We now offer Stanford 10 Online multiple-choice assessments that helps educators worldwide determine student achievement in real time for grades 3 through 12. Online assessments allow for automated capture, real-time reporting and scoring, and immediate normative analysis. There is no physical commitment on the part of school administrators and instructors to store, distribute, organize, and ship thousands of booklets and answer documents. We require testing for 3rd, 5th and 8th grades. Because it is mandatory for these grades, the testing will be part of your tuition price. We highly recommend that students receiving a standard or college preparatory diploma complete the College Board PSAT, SAT or ACT test. Students not taking the PSAT or SAT must take this test prior to graduating.
